Occupational Therapy Baking Groups
The therapeutic value of engaging in the activity of baking offers a person valued occupation(s) that can bring meaning and purpose to their lives.
The occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant will help the group members and assess for cognitive, physical, and social difficulties and grade the activities to suit the client’s needs, for example simplifying instructions or tasks. The group can also incorporate any wider goals set by the client for example improving social skills, coping with stress, anger management, improve concentration.
These groups will be weekly at Holcombe Brook Sports and Tennis Club, and for two hours. Currently the group has the capacity six people and their carer, and other healthcare professionals. Participants must have good upper body movement; the group is also suitable for wheelchair users. Attendees must also be over the age of 16 years old.
Our clients (with individual adaptation) successfully completed today's bake in a social context, and they took the bake home to share with their family and friends.
